August Door Opener

What lies behind you and what lies in front of you, pales in comparison to what lies inside of you. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson ~

This quote is so true and yet for many of us we are in the comparison mode.  Starting my career in the commercial insurance world was an eye opener. I needed to know how to deal with people, listen, listen, listen and be the best I could be.  My challenge was being young, being in a male dominated industry and learning while I earned.  I encountered well respected agents who sometimes were not giving all the facts to their clients and being that new kid on the block making a point was like hitting a brick wall. There was that comparison thing going on.  Why was I not getting the sales?  Then I realized it was my lack of confidence that was holding me back.   It was inside of me to be the best, now I had to practice, find the keys to unlock the doors and seek the answers from others who had tried, failed and then succeeded.

One of the realizations came me on how to build my self confidence from an ad I saw in the paper "Toastmasters Meeting, Come improve your speaking skill, build self confidence and learn the art of communication and leadership." That was 20 years ago.  It changed my thinking, gave me the confidence I so desperately needed and helped me realize the more I practiced the better I felt about myself. I am so grateful for all that I have learned and all that I can share with others every day.

Remember, with frustration proceeds growth.  If you are working on yourself all the time you will get better.  Arnold Palmer said " The more he practiced the luckier he got."  Don't compare, what good does it do?  Do something to build your skills.  Take a course, hire a coach, go to a workshop, read great books and find a mentor.  Try Toastmasters!( there are local groups everywhere)  What is it that you will do to build your self confidence?

Is Change Automatic?

They say change is automatic, but how we grow is determined by the decisions we make. Those decisions we choose in the critical moments of our lives.
As we near the end of summer, are we close to the goals we’ve set out to achieve or do we need to take a step back and look at everything from a different perspective. Looking at the nature of the seasons, I have a fuller understanding of the saying “we reap what we sow”.
At times we get caught up in the details and can’t see the big picture. Remember the definition of insanity…doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results. Maybe you’re on the hamster wheel and don’t even know it.
I can honestly say at times I have been negligent in planting my seeds because I became stuck or stagnant. Have you planted enough seeds for your harvest to come in by your determined date?

Motivated to create massive change, I decided to implement a 90 day challenge. It has helped before when I needed momentum to propel me forward. It was great motivation to get me back on track. Since we are half way through the year, I can honestly say I have accomplished more than I thought I could. After incorporating the 90-day challenge, I realized how productive I became once I focused on the goals and outcomes I truly desired.
Instituting the 90-day challenge allows us to see how much we can accomplish with this plan in place. What changes are you incorporating into your personal/business relationships to help you grow and prosper? The last quarter will soon be upon us, as we look towards fall and winter, are you on track to achieving your goals or is it time for your 90 day challenge?

On the lighter side

What is a fun day trip for you?  When was the last time you stepped away from the hustle and bustle, turned the phone and computer OFF and got away with your family, a friend or by yourself?

Day trips can reenergize you, get the juices flowing and give you that quick pick me up you need to finish that project staring you in the face.

I love going up to Lake Geneva, 1 hour travel time and I am sitting by the water.  Sometimes it is just to a local spa to be pampered.  A great walk at one of the wonderful parks, take a lunch and just relax.  Where do you go to get away on a day trip?  Share some thoughts on my blog site and I will share them with everyone.
